Custom Fertilizer Formula & Batch Feasibility Checker

Check the theoretical nutrient grade, formulation mass balance and raw-material quantities for a custom fertilizer blend. Select a Risso product category, enter the nutrient analysis of each raw material, set your target grade and calculate a production-batch estimate.

Designed for fertilizer manufacturers, distributors, importers and technical purchasing teams working with NPK fertilizers, featured fertilizers, soluble and liquid fertilizers, crop-specific fertilizers, and specialty fertilizers.

1. Define the product and batch

Choose the product family and enter the planned finished-batch mass.

Mass-based calculation · % w/w
metric tonnes
1 metric tonne = 1,000 kg. This is the planned finished-batch mass, before any unmodeled process loss.
kg/L
Enter the verified density at the relevant temperature to estimate finished-product volume.
percentage points
Used only to compare the calculated analysis with targets you enter. It is not a legal or product-standard tolerance.
For a theoretical blend check, enter actual raw-material nutrient analyses and inclusion percentages. Product-specific process, solubility, coating and compatibility requirements must be checked separately.

2. Enter the target nutrient grade

Targets are optional. Leave a nutrient blank if it is not part of the required specification.

N, P₂O₅ and K₂O follow the conventional fertilizer-grade basis. Ca, Mg, S, B, Zn and Fe are entered on an elemental basis in this calculator. Convert COA/TDS values to the same basis before entering them; for example, do not enter CaO as elemental Ca.

3. Build the raw-material formula

Select a material to load an illustrative default analysis, then edit every value to match your current supplier COA or TDS. Inclusion rates should total 100.00%.

The preset grades below are generic examples, not Risso product guarantees or manufacturing recommendations. Actual values can vary by source, grade, hydration state and specification.

The example is for demonstrating the mathematics only. It is not a validated commercial recipe. A filler/carrier is used to close the mass balance; actual raw materials and physical properties must be assessed by qualified technical staff.

How the fertilizer formula checker works

This custom fertilizer formulation calculator checks an entered blend on a mass basis. It calculates the weighted theoretical nutrient analysis from each raw material's inclusion percentage and declared nutrient grade, checks whether the stated inclusion rates add up to 100%, compares selected target nutrients within a user-defined tolerance, and estimates raw-material quantities for the target batch size.

For a complete formula, the theoretical grade of a nutrient is calculated as the sum of each ingredient's inclusion percentage multiplied by that ingredient's nutrient percentage, divided by 100. The ingredient mass for a batch is the target batch mass multiplied by the ingredient inclusion rate. The calculation does not automatically optimize a recipe from a target NPK grade.

Important limitations for fertilizer manufacturers

A mathematical nutrient balance is not the same as manufacturing approval. This tool does not validate chemical compatibility, solubility, pH, crystallization, granulation quality, coating performance, moisture, reaction behavior, storage stability, legal registration, labeling compliance, process loss or final laboratory results. Those checks depend on product type, process conditions, applicable standards and testing by qualified personnel.

For liquid fertilizers, all formulation percentages are by mass. The optional volume estimate uses the finished-product density entered by the user. For water-soluble, crop-specific and specialty fertilizers, enter all relevant guaranteed nutrients on a consistent reporting basis and separately verify micronutrients, organic matter, active ingredients and product-specific parameters that are not represented in the calculation.

Frequently asked questions

Can this calculator automatically create a custom NPK fertilizer recipe?

No. It checks a formula that you enter. Automatic recipe optimization requires a defined raw-material library, cost constraints, nutrient targets, process limits and a solver. This tool is designed for preliminary formula review and batch-mass estimation.

Why must the ingredient inclusion rates total 100%?

The rates represent the percentage by mass of the finished formula. If the total is below or above 100%, the formula has an unassigned mass balance or an overage, and the final theoretical nutrient grade should not be treated as a valid finished-product analysis.

Are the raw-material grades in the drop-down list guaranteed values?

No. Preset grades are illustrative starting points for common fertilizer materials. Replace them with the current supplier specification or certificate of analysis for the actual material being considered.

Does a passing result confirm that the fertilizer can be manufactured or sold?

No. A passing result only means the entered mass balance and selected nutrient targets pass the calculator's mathematical checks. Manufacturing feasibility, product performance, testing, regulatory requirements and customer specifications need separate review.
