On October 12, two clients from Pakistan visited the production base of Risso Fertilizer in Shandong, China, for an on-site tour and business discussion. The visit included an introduction to Risso’s development history, tours of multiple fertilizer production lines, and technical and commercial discussions covering several products of particular interest: calcium nitrate fertilizer, monopotassium phosphate (MKP), urea ammonium nitrate (UAN) solution, and urea phosphate (UP). The visit provided an opportunity for both sides to learn more about each other’s operations, review potential product requirements, and discuss opportunities for future cooperation in the fertilizer market.

Welcome and Introduction to Risso Fertilizer

Risso Fertilizer welcomed the two Pakistani customers to its manufacturing base in Shandong Province, China. During the visit, the Risso team introduced the company’s development history, manufacturing operations, and product portfolio, providing an overview of its experience in fertilizer production and international supply. The introduction covered Risso’s approach to serving customers with different agricultural needs, including conventional compound fertilizers, water-soluble fertilizers, liquid fertilizers, and specialty crop nutrition products. For customers evaluating a fertilizer manufacturer, an on-site visit offers a practical way to understand a supplier beyond product quotations and technical documents. It allows them to see the production environment, learn about manufacturing processes, and communicate directly with the team responsible for product supply and quality management.

Exploring Risso’s Development History and Manufacturing Facilities

Following the company introduction, the customers toured multiple fertilizer production lines to gain a closer understanding of Risso’s manufacturing capabilities.

During the factory tour, the Risso team introduced the production processes and equipment used across its fertilizer operations. The visit provided an opportunity to discuss how different product categories are manufactured and how production arrangements relate to customer specifications and supply requirements.

Particular attention was given to the practical aspects of fertilizer manufacturing, including product consistency, production planning, quality control, and the ability to accommodate different product requirements.

These considerations are important for importers and distributors sourcing fertilizers for their respective markets. Product specifications, reliable supply arrangements, packaging requirements, and communication with the manufacturer all play a role in establishing a long-term supply relationship. By visiting the production facilities in person, the Pakistani customers could gain a more direct understanding of Risso’s operations and discuss their interests with the team on-site.

Four Fertilizer Products in Focus

A major part of the visit focused on four products that attracted particular interest from the Pakistani customers: calcium nitrate, MKP, UAN solution, and UP fertilizer.

Each product serves a different nutritional purpose, making product specifications, application methods, and intended market uses important topics for further discussion.

Calcium Nitrate Fertilizer

Calcium nitrate supplies plants with calcium and nitrate nitrogen. It is commonly used in fertigation systems, greenhouse production, and other agricultural applications where readily available calcium and nitrogen are required.

During the product discussion, the two sides explored calcium nitrate as a potential product for their sourcing needs. Important considerations for further evaluation include nutrient composition, solubility, product form, packaging, and suitability for the intended application.

For distributors and agricultural suppliers, selecting an appropriate calcium nitrate product also requires consideration of local crop requirements and the fertilizer application systems used by their customers.

Monopotassium Phosphate (MKP 0-52-34)

Typical fertilizer grade: 0-52-34

MKP, or monopotassium phosphate, is a fully water-soluble fertilizer that provides phosphorus and potassium without adding nitrogen.

Its typical fertilizer grade of 0-52-34 makes it relevant to fertigation, greenhouse cultivation, hydroponics, and foliar nutrition programs where these two nutrients are required without additional nitrogen.

The discussion around MKP provided an opportunity to consider product specifications and potential applications. Solubility, purity, moisture content, packaging, and compatibility with other fertilizers are key factors to assess when selecting MKP for a particular market or application.

Urea Ammonium Nitrate (UAN) Solution

UAN is a liquid nitrogen fertilizer containing nitrogen in urea, ammonium, and nitrate forms. UAN 32 is a commonly used grade, supplying approximately 32% total nitrogen by weight.

Its liquid form makes it suitable for agricultural systems designed for liquid fertilizer handling and application. Depending on local equipment and agronomic practices, UAN may be used for pre-plant application, side-dressing, or other nitrogen fertilization programs.

For potential buyers, evaluating UAN involves more than nitrogen content alone. Product concentration, physical properties, storage conditions, transportation arrangements, and compatibility with application equipment may all affect purchasing decisions.

The customers’ interest in UAN added another dimension to the discussion, covering the potential supply of liquid fertilizer alongside solid and water-soluble products.

Urea Phosphate (UP 17-44-0)

Typical fertilizer grade: 17-44-0

Urea phosphate combines nitrogen and phosphorus in a water-soluble fertilizer. The typical 17-44-0 grade provides both nutrients while offering an acidic solution when dissolved in water.

UP is used in fertigation and other crop nutrition programs where soluble phosphorus is required. Its acidic properties can also be relevant to irrigation-water management, although suitability depends on water chemistry, crop requirements, and the overall fertilizer program.

Key considerations when assessing UP include nutrient analysis, solubility, product quality, packaging, and compatibility with other inputs used in the intended application system.

The Pakistani customers’ interest in UP created an opportunity to explore its potential alongside MKP, calcium nitrate, and UAN, allowing both sides to consider a broader range of fertilizer supply options.

Business Discussions and Potential Cooperation

After the factory tour, the two sides held a meeting in the conference room to exchange views on business requirements and potential cooperation.

The discussion covered the customers’ interests in the four featured fertilizer products, together with the practical considerations involved in future sourcing. These included product specifications, potential order requirements, packaging options, quality expectations, and supply arrangements.

For international fertilizer trade, aligning these details at an early stage helps establish a clearer basis for product evaluation and commercial negotiations. Differences in application practices, distribution channels, import requirements, and logistics can all influence the final product and supply plan.

The meeting also provided an opportunity for the Risso team to better understand the customers’ needs and identify areas that may warrant further technical communication and commercial follow-up.

Rather than focusing on individual products in isolation, the discussions explored the potential for a broader working relationship based on suitable product selection and clearly defined supply requirements.

Looking Ahead to Future Cooperation

The visit from the two Pakistani customers reflects the value of direct communication between fertilizer manufacturers and international buyers. Factory tours and face-to-face discussions allow both sides to develop a clearer understanding of manufacturing operations, product characteristics, and commercial expectations.

For Risso Fertilizer, such visits provide opportunities to communicate directly with customers, understand their sourcing priorities, and explore potential applications for its fertilizer portfolio.

With calcium nitrate, MKP, UAN solution, and UP fertilizer among the products discussed, the two sides have several areas to consider as communication continues. Further cooperation will depend on aligning product specifications, order requirements, quality standards, and commercial terms.

Risso Fertilizer looks forward to maintaining communication with its Pakistani customers and exploring opportunities to develop a practical, long-term supply relationship.
